The next hub in the European multimodal transport network: The L.I.T. Group is expanding into Scandinavia for the first time and establishing L.I.T. Nordics Oy. The Finnish company is based in the port city of Turku in the southwest of the country. With its infrastructure, this location offers diverse opportunities for cargo handling and storage. The combination of sea, road, and rail transport enables flexible and cost-efficient transport solutions. The service portfolio of the new L.I.T. company includes, among other things, partial and full loads as well as temperature-controlled transports. Nordics Oy will operate as an asset-based capacity provider, utilizing established and robust ferry routes and rail connections to best meet customer needs. Ibro Salkanovic serves as Managing Director. The operational start is January 1, 2025.

“The goal of L.I.T. Nordics Oy is to build a multimodal network of rail and ferry connections between the Nordic and Baltic countries and the rest of Europe, in order to develop an efficient and sustainable provider of freight transport services,” says Klaas Lange, Business Development at L.I.T. Speditions GmbH. The company is strategically optimally located in the port of Turku – Finland's oldest city. Megatrailers are used on all routes, which can load up to 25 tons of payload compared to normal containers. The advantages over classic truck transport lie in the reduction of CO2 emissions, the higher weight per transport unit, and the improved social standard of living for driving personnel. Ibro Salkanovic, Managing Director of Nordics Oy, says: “By using megatrailers, we need fewer truck drivers to transport the same amount of goods. This reduces the burden on colleagues and leads to greater satisfaction.” L.I.T.'s medium-term goal is to implement its own block trains.

L.I.T. as a financially stable and innovative partner
Should there be disruptions in rail freight transport, the extensive truck fleet of the L.I.T. Group can be utilized. Klaas Lange says: “With our direct trucks, we can continue to maintain our customers' supply chains even in the event of network disruptions. L.I.T. will be a financially stable and innovative partner for its partners, with whom the future of multimodal transport will be shaped together.” He adds: “Thus, L.I.T. will be able to offer its customers a comprehensive multimodal network with megatrailers between Scandinavia, the Baltics, Great Britain, Spain, Italy, Germany, and BeNeLux in the future.”
