WESTFALIA intralog GmbH is now operating under the L.I.T. flag. The former subsidiary of SULO Deutschland GmbH has been part of L.I.T. Speditions GmbH since August 1, 2021. With the acquisition by the Lower Saxony logistics service provider, the two transport companies aim to bundle their resources in the swap body business. WESTFALIA intralog will continue to operate under its own name and with its proven team as an independent business unit of the L.I.T. Group. The cooperation with the SULO Group will continue within the framework of a multi-year contract.
“WESTFALIA intralog is excellently positioned for swap body transports – just like us – and thus ideally complements our portfolio,” says Simeon Breuer, Managing Director of L.I.T. Speditions GmbH and Member of the Executive Board of L.I.T. AG. Dirk Schröder, Managing Director of WESTFALIA intralog GmbH, also sees a perfect match in the two companies: “By utilizing synergy effects, we, together with L.I.T., possess significant clout in the area of swap body logistics.”
WESTFALIA intralog was founded in 1983 as the internal shipping department of the then SULO Eisenwerke GmbH & Co. KG and has since undergone remarkable development. As early as 1984, the logistics provider from Herford began acquiring external customers and developed over the following decades into one of the leading providers of Jumbo swap body logistics in Germany. Most recently, WESTFALIA intralog employed 77 staff members at five Locations: in Essen, Lohr am Main, Tettau (Upper Franconia), in Momignies, Belgium (Province of Hainaut), and in Herford.
According to Schröder, the decision to separate from the SULO Group was considered strategically sound by both sides. The spin-off from the waste management company opens up new development opportunities for the forwarding company and a refocusing on its core competence, logistics. “WESTFALIA intralog has reached a point where the resources of a pioneering forwarding company like L.I.T. promise to give us new impetus,” says Schröder. The transport company's approximately 1,000 swap bodies will complement the L.I.T. Group's existing stock, which is currently twice as large. The 38-year cooperation with SULO Deutschland will be seamlessly continued within the framework of a multi-year contract.
