Cross-modal transport and logistics solutions from a single source: With this goal, we have established the joint venture SmartRail Logistics together with the rail logistics provider Captrain Deutschland GmbH. One of the first major customers is a renowned Automotive manufacturer. Since 2018, the Joint Venture has been supplying its Emden plant with vehicle parts by rail.
Three trains travel from Dresden to Emden per week. This saves us around 100 truck journeys. “With SmartRail Logistics, we offer our customers multimodal integrated transport solutions. The company manages the entire supply chain from Door-to-Door,” explains Simeon Breuer, Managing Director of L.I.T. Speditions GmbH. Through the innovative cooperation between the forwarding company and the railway in a joint venture, not only is the number of necessary processes and interfaces reduced, but a highly efficient transport network is also created.
The reorganization of freight transport also has further advantages: On the one hand, partial loading onto rail is more environmentally friendly than pure road transport. On the other hand, the efficiency of transports increases, because by law, four tons more goods may be transported in combined transport than in road transport.

The idea of a transport corridor from Dresden directly to the Emden Automotive plant was presented by L.I.T. CEO Fokke Fels and Captrain Managing Director Henrik Würdemann at the annual “Logistics Innovation Day” of Volkswagen AG. With success: In addition to the multi-year contract for intermodal transport, they received the innovation award. “We have driven this project forward together from day one. Such an innovation can only be implemented in cooperation with another well-established company like Captrain,” emphasizes Fokke Fels.
